MiNK is a warm organisation made up of enthusiastic people. The main driver for the formation and continued growth of the company is a desire to make a real difference in the world. Here at MiNK we strongly believe that life is a special gift and we strive to make the most of it. MiNK believes in empowering people of colour, helping them to build up their self-esteem and making them and the rest of the world see just how beautiful they are.
We exist to:
We have a charity arm that supports disadvantaged women and young people, particularly young girls, in both our local and global communities.
One of the ways we are able to support women and young girls is through the production of life changing events and experiences, designed to encourage and empower them. The events aim to develop self-confidence and self-worth in place of dependency and complacency.
We believe that giving people self-confidence is the most important thing that the company can do, because then they will act. This applies to staff that work at MiNK, our makeup artists and anybody that comes into contact with the organisation.
Last but definitely not least, we seek to redistribute some of the wealth the business creates to those people that need it the most. We do this by donating 10% of our profits each year to charity.
In 2013 MiNK's charity of choice is AMREF.
AMREF is Africa’s leading health charity, with over 55 years of experience bringing sustainable health change to communities across sub-Saharan Africa. Their work ensures that communities have the knowledge, skills and means to maintain their good health and break the cycle of poor health and poverty.
AMREF is a huge organisation with many projects and we are particularly keen to highlight the "Stand up for African Mothers" project.
In Africa 1 in 39 women die in pregnancy and childbirth, dying needlessly of conditions which are easily treatable and avoidable.
AMREF believes that midwives are the key to good maternal health in Africa. Access to skilled care from a trained midwife during pregnancy, childbirth and after delivery is key to saving a mother’s life and that of her child.
AMREF believes in a future where no woman should die giving birth; a future where African women have access to at least basic health care during pregnancy and childbirth.
